Jimmy Flippen, Jr., PGA - Playing Professional - Primary Instructor of Golf

Jimmy has taught players the game of golf for over 25 years.  Jimmy’s teaching philosophy is about finding your next “level of perfect” by working with your swing to help make it work better for you.  One aspect of the game Jimmy is particularly passionate about is course management.  Jimmy believes there is a time when a valiant shot is needed and a time when play needs to be more conservative. The trick is knowing which shot is necessary and when to play it.  Jimmy's extensive playing resume dictates his knowledge of the game; and his success with former students through coaching proves it.  This includes 8 years as the High School golf coach for Westover Christian Academy in Danville, Virginia; where Jimmy guided the team to back-to-back Virginia Association of Christian Athletic State Titles.  In addition, he was twice recognized as the Danville Register and Bee All-Metro Coach of the Year.

Jimmy has been competing in tournament golf since he was 10.  He has achieved national success as a junior, collegiate, amateur, and professional golfer.  While playing for the University of Virginia, Jimmy was named the first ACC and NCAA Rookie of the Year in 1992.  In 1996, Jimmy was ranked as the fourth best amateur in the country behind Tiger Woods, Buddy Maurucci, and Ryuji Imada after winning the Cardinal Amateur and finishing runner-up in both the North-South Amateur and Azalea Amateur.  In 2016, after winning the Section Championship, Head Pro Championship, and Players Cup for the Middle Atlantic Section, Jimmy was named Middle Atlantic Section Player of the Year.  Jimmy had a triumphant 2023 by winning the North Carolina Senior Open and qualifying for the 2024 PGA Professional Championship.  2024 will mark Jimmy's 6th appearance in the PGA Professional Championship.

Jimmy has a strong dedication for continuously enhancing his game while sharing his knowledge in helping others improve.  He is offering individual and group sessions as well as various clinics, camps, and playing lessons.

Aaron Dooley, PGA - General Manager - Instructor of Golf

Aaron began his tenure at The Waterfront Country Club as the Head Golf Professional.  After a year in that position, Aaron was promoted when an opportunity arose to General Manager of the Club overseeing all aspects related to the Members, Food and Beverage and Golf.  Aaron is still available to teach when requested, just as he did prior to his current role with the Club.  Throughout his 20 plus years of being in the golf industry, Aaron has taught many people along the way.  Aaron's belief is that not everyone swings the same way and works to help create a swing and instruction around the individual player, not the other way around.

Aaron began learning the golf swing at the age of 5 from his father who coached high school golf for 43 years.  His passion for the game led to his attendance of Methodist College where he graduated from the # 1 Professional Golf Management Program in the country, and later became a member of the PGA of America.  Aaron enjoys teaching but found his niche teaching the short game.  He has learned much along the way, but still uses most of fundamentals he learned as a youngster from his father and which he has shared with many over his 20 plus years in the golf industry.
